A Journey Through Cremona’s Pictorial Heritage

The itinerary begins with Medieval art and unfolds through Renaissance masterpieces, including notable works by Boccaccino and the Campi brothers. The exploration of realism reaches its height with Caravaggio’s Saint Francis in Meditation. Here, art becomes strikingly real: a raw, powerful style that captures nature in its purest form, free from idealization.

The heart of the museum is the San Domenico Hall, which houses monumental works salvaged from the former church of the same name preserving the legacy of a lost city landmark. The tour continues with the restless art of Cerano and the "powerful grace" of Genovesino, leading to the magnificent 15th-century inlaid cabinet by master craftsman Platina. The collection then moves through the elegance of Neoclassicism and the evocative, painterly style of Piccio, before reaching the modern era. The itinerary concludes with the renowned Carutti Collection of string instruments. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions; the archive of historical drawings and prints is available to view by appointment.
